@Idolenz  are you able to work your magic in the following?

Thanks in advance

Most of them look easy but some probably will need more manual touch-ups, I will look into it in the evening.

Here you go:

David Henry FitzRoy Somerset

Ernest Musgrave Harvey

Frank May

George Forbes

George Malcolm Gill

Thank you!

@Compendium please can you update the signatures as above

Thanks

Done

2 are missing

They seemed already cropped

@Idolenz can you update the missing 2 as they have a grey background?

@Compendium can you please add the full names for the signatures as above.

Thanks

Done

Strange, I only see grey background when I make a screenshot and the screen gets dimmed other wise they are perfectly white on my end (maybe my browser is smoothing things over).

@Compendium please update the final 2. Thanks

Done

On my end they were appearing like this

Are we able to add the names of other signatures even if we don't have their signatures?

Chief Cashiers | Bank of England

Thanks

There would be no point imo as our DB is made to help collectors.make sense of visible marks and signs on their collectibles. Or WDYT?

We have a few older banknotes like this: 30 Pounds (White) - England – Numista where signature information is in the year line and I think it would be better to have the names in the database even if we don't yet have the signature?

Maybe just add the list in this post and mark off the ones we already have. Then it will be easier to find the missing signatures (when needed for specific notes).

Just call me Bram

No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!

OK I could add them with a generic image “No picture available” indeed; @Xavier do you approve?

I would rather recommend not adding any picture at all. I tested it's already possible and it works mostly fine. We can improve and show the “No picture available” placeholder automatically for signatures with no pictures if we want to in the future.

will we have banknotes going all the way back to 1694?

We should only have those that are actually on notes, at least on the linked note there is no signature of a Mathews Marshall evey note I found seems to have different signatures of random bank tellers(?).

Ok so feel Free folks to make a new request with missing names even without signatures

Thank you. Therefore please can you update the Bank of England list as

  • John Kendrick: 1694
  • Thomas Speed: 1694 to 1699
  • Thomas Madockes: 1699 to 1739
  • James Collier and Daniel Race (jointly): 1739 to 1751
  • Daniel Race and Elias Simes (jointly): 1751 to 1759
  • Daniel Race: 1759 to 1775
  • Charles Jewson: 1775 to 1777
  • Abraham Newland: 1778 to 1807
  • Henry Hase: 1807 to 1829
  • Thomas Rippon: 1829 to 1835
  • Matthew Marshall: 1835 to 1864
  • William Miller: 1864 to 1866

We don't want all Cashiers in the institution history, only those we know have their signatures on some banknotes. Is it the case for them?

As we are only missing 5 signatures, it would seem silly to not include them

They are added; I let @Xavier implement the automatic logo nudging community to share missing image if they have it in their collection

Thank you.

Interesting that Thomas speed is first rather than kendrick. Can we change the order?

peterjhalford

Thank you.

I cannot manually, you can report a bug/improvement request on the forum

Hi, the order is fixed.

Please can the list of Bank of England Cashiers be updated again as Victoria Cleland has been appointed again as Chief Cashier from 2nd June 2025 until present.

Sarah John's tenure thus ended 2025.

Didn't know that.

It would be nice to see her signature on notes depicting the King.

Aidan.
