still valid or not

Hi all ,

Simple question, is this coin still in circulation or has it been demonetized?

If demonetized please enter info. into the catalogue.

Thank you, Merv

The not so simple answer is that it is not legal tender but has never been officially demonitized in the traditional sense as it was primarily sold to collectors in Special Mint Sets and was never widely circulated due to it's low value but still holds value to collectors. Why? Ask the Danish authorities.

In January coins from 50 öre to 20 Kroner issued between 1989 - '93 and later are still valid. From 31 May 2025 banknotes from older series than the 2009 one will lose their value, also the 1000 Kroner note will be terminated.

This bites itself with this though:

All coins issued after 1875 with a value of 50 øre or higher that are not materially damaged are still legal tender (i.e. valid as a means of payment) and can be exchanged for new coins. They can be exchanged for new coins at your bank. Danmarks Nationalbank may subsequently exchange the coins at the bank's request.
