A complaint needs to be filed with the European Central Bank AND the European Commission!

This is why;

https://en.ucoin.net/coin/cyprus-2-euro-2024/?cid=256093&uid=155851 .

Central banks in the Eurozone should NEVER release commemorative 2 Euro coins that are not in circulation quantities - & they should NEVER be allowed to sell them for obscene issuing prices above their face value.

Aidan.

Technically they sold proof variant at 20 Euro. Which would be reasonable. Releasing proof only variant failed to satisfy demand and lead to speculation. From collector safety perspective proof only release of 2 commemorative euro coin by regular EU central bank should not be allowed.

Absurd prices popped out when bank failed to limit number of sales to single individuals and scalpers managed to acquire batches of at least 25 pcs. Or they got even more and were limited to 25 pcs by ebay.

You could link to thread on numista forum instead linking to ucoin.net coin information page. Ucoin page only shows scalper pricing.

Doesn't change the fact that commemorative 2 Euro coins should be released into circulation at face value - a rule that the European Central Bank & the European Commission should be enforcing.

So this is a Collector coin and not an NCLT?

Both. NCLT and collector coins are both huge catch-all terms that fit vast swaths of pressed metal that leaves mints.

@cyprusalexander , what is your opinion regarding this?

I think it is obscene to have only 7,000 coins in Proof only when the rules state that 2 Euro commemoratives should also be released into circulation at their face value.

Since it's a 10 Euro “coin”, in European terms it's a Collector Coin. In Numista terms, it would be a NC coin since the face value is in Euros.

I have a list of people who scalped 2020 10 euros Gaon coin. One of them also put 2024 100 euros dedicated to AI for sale. If ebay history is correct, he could not sell it. I probably won't bother tracking people selling above “10 euro”.

@tokul ,this is why the European Central Bank & the European Commission needs to step in.
