Nurnberg Dickpfennig 13th Century - Reference?

2 posts • viewed 50 times

Hello all,

I have the below Pfennig from Nurnberg presumably minted at the Royal mint from Frederick II to the Interregnum period of the 13th Century.  I found it in Metcalf's The Coinage of Soth Germany in the Thirteenth Century (Item 164 on pages 31-32) but am looking for another reference.  Any help would be appreciated.  Weight is 0.7 grams and diameter is 18 mm.  The reverse has been obliterated during the minted process, but Metcalf says it is two crowned lions facing with a cross flanked by two smaller crosses below.

Regards,

David

Sorry, but the only Nurnberg pfennig with an eagle left that I could find is this one, with no further references:  https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=5967208
