Coin Identification App Suggestions Please

Can anybody recommend a good coin identification app? Easy to use and preferably “royalty free”

I've just added 14 coins to my collection bought as one batch - purchased just because I really liked them pleasing to the eye and the hand. I haven't got a clue as to where they are from perhaps India, zero ability to read the fluid scrolls lines, swirls and dots. Some look traditional coin like in shape some are really wide with smooth chisel like edges.

I took them to somebody who I know who has a metal analysis machine to get definitive composition to try and help me identify or narrow down what they are which he very kindly did. He too thought they were fascinating - he just deals in scrapping precious metals he's not a coin person as such.

I've attempted the google photo link on my laptop however they seem to have changed the layout to a less friendly variety so I can't see the subject matter at the same time as the probable matches - well unless I have clicked on some setting somewhere and altered it myself!

I purchased 6 books (second hand) that I thought would assist me but managed to just about meltdown my remaining braincell.

Don't fancy spamming this forum and upsetting members by asking for assistance in identification - I'm not interested in valuation just what they are and then I can go read the history behind them. I have more history behind them I know they were once seen by the curator of the Lucknow Museum back in the 1960's.

So my next cunning plan is to download and app and try id that way.

Thank you for any pointers in the right direction

I've tried some of the apps. None compare to Numista.

Here's a newer one although I've haven't tried it.  https://apps.apple.com/us/app/coin-id-coin-value-identifier/id1665672552

I absolutely agree with you. Google has messed up with their new photo ID. I think they'll eventually go back.

Trying to use the image search on here and add filters has been fruitless for me as well which could just be my bad photos or that I don't know which way around the coin should be.

Example coin number 5 or as I have started thinking of it as my smiley face coin (yup I see a smile face in the coin pattern!)

When I pop the filters in place adding its round plus weight diameter thickness and alloy plus the photo says there are no results for this coin. Remove the thickness and diameter leave in composition plus round and silver add picture and I get two pages of different options none of which I can say it is definitively this coin exact match. Remove the shape leave in the image add its silver and hey presto another totally different set of of three pages of options appear. So have gone around in circles. So have thought if I definitively identify one use an app that agrees with its identity then possibly use that app to identify the others or at least narrow down the search

The nearest sort of pattern match I have managed by looking at photo's so far not using any app is this one but its not an exact match just some of the shapes are the same ….  it has the smile face but a 1 and and upside down V on mine but on the one on here its a 1 and a backwards 7 plus lots of other things not right …..almost like the patterns have slipped over the edge…. off centre

1 Rupee - Muhammad Shah (Shahjahanabad) - Mughal Empire – Numista

You will most likely not find any application that can deal with these monotone squiggly lines type coins. They have quite a bit in variants and are often out of flan. You will either have to learn the script/language or find someone how does or at least is familiar with the coins.

I think that it is the 1 rupee coin, the reason why there’s a difference is because the one on the page is from the Islamic year 1143 (1730/1731 Gregorian), and the part that is different from your coin says sana ۱۳ julus, which means “13 year of accession”, which I believe its talking about Murshid Quli Khan, which became the first Nawab of the Bengal Subah in 1717, 13 years before the coin was minted. The “one and upside down v” that you are talking about is actually 18 is Urdu numerals. So the coin that you have is from the 18th year after Murshid became the first Nawab, or 1148 (1735/1736 Gregorian).

The part the shows the year it was minted is circled in the image below, but yours is missing it. I don’t think it’s off center, but I think the outer rim is just missing

Did you know that Pluto is still a planet in Illinois and New Mexico and has de facto recognition as a planet in Arizona?

I was really interested in this for some reason and was really dedicated to figuring it out

Did you know that Pluto is still a planet in Illinois and New Mexico and has de facto recognition as a planet in Arizona?

Blimey @Pluto2181930 That was a awesome!

Thanks for the input @Idolenz much appreciated. Think my ability chances in learning this language are going to be a big zero. Now if I can find an app that pointed towards Pluto's information just narrowing it down to sort of the right area then I don't mind sitting going through pictures. I find the them rather beautiful even if there isn't a picture stamped on them and I haven't a clue what I am looking at 😂

@rsirian1 Going to start testing which app gives me the best hints by trying out the one you mentioned

Thank you all for taking the time to reply its appreciated
