Help with identifying script for North Borneo

5 posts • viewed 31 times

These North Borneo banknotes I was about to add have a scrip in the lower right, where I can't identify it.

The 25 and 50 Cents have different writing, but I can't figure them out. It doesn't look Chinese to me..? Maybe Kawi? It seems to me to be two different scripts, but could also just be due to the font of the script?

The higher values have Chinese as their right script.

Any help? Thanks :D

For the 25 cents - Jawi script and Chinese. The Chinese is written side way.

As for the 50 cents, I think it is this 半元 or half dollar. The writing is just a bit of creative and again, it is printed side way too.

Oh! I see the 50 Cents now! Thanks :D

Is the 25 Cents both Chinese and Jawi script?

Wait. Looked up the Jawi script… Isn't it “just” a modified Arabic script?

The Jawi script is based on the Arabic script. You can google that with more details. 😀
