It was all over the Hong Kong news - today was HSBC's 160th anniversary, to the day.
Fun fact: I was inspired to start a paper money collection by an HSBC note!
They have a brilliant outdoor showcase of $100 notes through the years. Here's my own:

The red looks really nice on those banknotes (though I think it’s just because I’m so used to seeing green banknotes)
I used to work for Midland Bank, before it was taken over by HSBC.

In the town there were two other branches - Greyfriars, and St. John's Street.
Also two sub-branches - inside County Hall on their paydays, and in Kempston [my home town].

Just over halfway down that page.
Midland took over both Nothern Bank and Belfast Banking Co. in Northern Ireland, merging them together around 1970 with a new Northern Bank note issue featuring the Midland Bank logo on the reverse. Midland disposed of Northern prior to being taken over by HSBC, so there were never any HSBC branches in Northern Ireland.
Ah yes, I remember the Northern Bank cheques being the same
yellow design as the Midland Bank cheques. I joined around 1972,
and still remember the first cash dispensers, where a little white
plastic clip contained 10 of the £1 notes,
and they were folded in half before putting into the clip.
Then the back of the machine was opened and all the full clips
were placed in the dispense slot . After a customer
had taken their £10 of notes, a little door opened so
they could put the empty clip back in.
I think to operate the machine a customer was given a
card the size of a credit card and a three digit PIN number.
Found this, which is Martins (to become Barclays) Bank,
but it contains the information.
Nice collection, HSBC has some of the best banknote designs. Excellent examples of Hong Kong's colonial past

Just looking at that image, it seems $100 was worth a whole lot more in 1941 than it is now. I always wondered what made the HK dollar only worth like 10 - 20 cents now, when it was like $1 in the 1900s and you could get silver 5 cent coins, now you can't even get 5 cent coins or silver ones!
I mean look at this 10 cent piece from 1866, good silver and this may have been used by the early officers at HSBC. I paid melt on it back in 2020 because of someone's attempt at holing it.
