Shipping coins from Spain to Ireland? VAT?

4 posts • viewed 82 times

I have won some coins in Spain, and I was wondering if shipping it to Ireland would mean I would have to pay customs or VAT? Value is just shy of €2000. Anybody have any experiences with shipping numismatics across the EU?

many thanks

You do not pay customs when shipping inside EU.

When you say Ireland, do you mean the Republic of Ireland (in the EU) or Northern Ireland (part of the UK not in the EU)?

Because your profile has you in the UK, which would suggest Northern Ireland.

From Europe to UK, you will be liable because of BREXIT for custom charges.

If you are in Northern Ireland, you will be liable for UK import duty (5% last time I looked). I think you will not be liable for UK VAT - check on the HMRC website. If the package is properly labelled and sent via a courier service, DHL for example, then the import duty might not be levied. Sometimes it is, sometimes note.

If you were shipping from Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland or vice versa, then there is no Vat or duty.
