What is this US colony of Philippines Coin? [solved]

4 posts • viewed 89 times

I found this 1945 Philippines coin but I can't find it on Numista.

It looks like N#16638 but the date is 1945

This one has the right date N#4711 but its nickel brass and my coin looks more like copper nickel or similar silvery colour.

Does anyone know if I have missed something or is this just a later date of the first one or an incorrect planchet the latter?

N#4711 is right. Your coin may have been plated post mint.

There is nothing wrong with your coin and that is exactly what it is supposed to look like. The problem is with the photo on the Numista page. Clearly a lighting problem as the existing photos appear yellow. Both the 1944 and 1945 should appear like a U.S. Nickel with a silver like finish. I have many of these and will attempt to replace the existing photos with the proper lighting and effect. Obviously not this below as I just took quick photos with my phone but this will give you the idea.

Edit. Note my photo of an edge on the same Numista page. Silver like finish.

Thank you so much for the clarification @harryg

I really apprecaite it!
