Just a weak strike and wear. Nothing special.

Thank you for your comment. The rim itself and other areas oo the coin do not show similar wear. If the stars are not visible due to a “weak” strike, is that then not an error?

I have not seen any listings of this coin with this kind of error, but some coins, with lesser errors, are listed for thousands of dollars. Hence, I was hoping this would also be seen as a major error and raise the coin's value significantly.

Any more thoughts?

It is possible a filled die error might cause 1, maybe 2 stars to not be made. Filled dies errors are not unusual when you make 62 million coins.  Weak strikes are not errors, just part of the mass production process. They would never be rejected by the mint. What do you consider a lesser error? Listing an “error coin” thousands of dollars and selling it for that much are completely different things. My opinion is that you don't have even a minor error coin. Let's see what other members opinions are.

Weak strike and rather used…
