New coins for Japan?

Japan's coins have remained the same pretty much since the end of the American occupation. I personally like them very much, however I think they need to make a new series.

This is my idea for the low denominations:

I am not the best artist, the circles are the Imperial Seal of Japan.

15turtles, if you could make a realistic looking version on photoshop, that would be great!

Nice profile pic! I have one of those too (in worse condition though). Gotta love colonial tokens!

Thanks! It is a great coin!
The stroke order is bad! It's a Japanese pet peeve.

Although it's good you show initiative to show new designs, you're forgetting a few things. The 5 Yen is holed because it's a good luck symbol. I get what you're doing with the 20 Yen though. Although the 50 Yen does commonly circulate, if a 20 Yen was released it would be much more popular.

This is another thing: Japan should drop the zeros and use Sen again. If I had to redesign Japanese coinage, I'd probably reintroduce sen. Figures that I would use on the new coins would be:
- The Byoudo-in
- Japanese Phoenix
- Red Crane
- The Rising Sun (although more of a symbol to the defunct empire)
- Rice
- Fuji-san
- A tori (gate)
- Paulowina flowers
- Chrysantheum
- Sakura
- The Tokyo Tower, as a symbol of progress
- The ocean (recurring on many Japanese coins; I'd imagine it on the 5 yen)
...the list goes on and on, but these are the best examples.

Keep in mind Japan never used people on their coins. I'm sure this would stay consistent.

I did use some of the symbols you specified, but good advice, I will change the 5 yen coin.
Wouldn't bronze be more appropriate for the 10?

Did you use my 1000 Yen coin? It looks like it.

I can imagine them issuing a 1000 Yen coin, made of silver. Of course it would be much smaller, but it would be thick and lettered.

Daniel, although I'm super busy, I have this urge to make those designs; I'll look into it. In the meantime, someone should redesign the US coinage, since it seems pretty old too.

Guys and (maybe?) gals,

I will be away for the next two weeks... I will make everything else after I come back... if you guys can wait that long.

This was fun, I'll certainly do a better job next time as I was very rushed today...

Have a great March break (Vacation or "staycation") fellas!
