The Brazil coin pre-dates the Euro Cent by a year, unless I'm missing something the Euro was released in 1999 and Brazil was using these in 1998.
I don't recall because I was only 15 at the time, but was the Euro design public and known long enough for Brazil to copy it? Or maybe was it the other way around that the early Euro cent's were inspired by the Brazil coin?
The Brazillian Cent was also minted in the Royal Dutch Mint, if that has anything to do with the similarities?
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost." - J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
If it really entered circulation in 2000, I doubt that Uzbekistan had enough time to copy the Euro Cent design. Or maybe it was also designed by Luc Luycx? 🙂
