Non coin question. I believe an American badge of some type

6 posts • viewed 93 times

A friend of mine collected a few badges over time, most of which I have sorted, but this one is confusing me.

With the star in the centre, I am guessing it is from the USA but not sure as other countries use a star, but as 90% of the other badges were from the USA, I have to assume my first hunch is correct. Wing tip to wing tip it measures 49mm and 36mm top to bottom

Does anyone have a definitive answer as to what this badge was given for, if anything, and obviously the correct country.

Thanks in advance

I think this search will help:

Google — wings star 256

So, a replica of an army pilot badge. I see a word above “256”. Is it “POKER”?

Yes, it states POKER above B56on the back of the left hand wing.  I have a “Friends of Sally B” badge, and just noticed this badge design is shown above the B-17 bomber

Afraid I don't know it, but I'm fairly sure the badge says P.56 not B56

Not that I think that helps much!

Reverse Google image didn't return anything either.

I'm neither American nor a medal guy, but so far as I can tell, I don't believe it's official American military - they prefer the broader long span wings rather than that raised style shown.

Also unusual is the top-centre loop - it looks very much like a pendant from a necklace. The clasp being a safety pin style also seems off, though can't say why. Suppose I associate it with cheaper, mass-market or amateur hobbiest.

The edges in the star look a little off-centre & a bit rounded.

I may be way off the mark, but I'll tell you what my initial instinct was - Small Texan motorbike gang. Amateur-ish design suggests small, for fun production. Option to be worn as badge or necklace.

Lone star state is famously Texas, and the circle could be a wheel.

Wing motif for biker gangs are a frequent occurrence.

But absolutely zero evidence to back it up. If you do find out, do let us know. I'd love to laugh at just how wrong I am! 😅

Agreed - not 256 or B56 but P.56 below POKER lettering

Definitely P.56 below POKER, which seems to have been engraved into the wing
