Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins

I've added that many new ones to my collection not sure if I have or haven't added them here. Playing catch up listing things into the site and will try and remember to add them here from this point forward.

This one though I particularly like

Finish on it is awesome. Its the cupro-nickel variety not the silver as no hallmarks on the rim edge.

I also managed to find it listed in Tams (page 224 item number 44) but as I found that on another site that had the PDF scanned in you'd have to click link and read.

Newman Numismatic Portal at Washington University in St. Louis | Comprehensive Research & Reference for U.S. Coinage

more 1970s Franklin mint sterling silver flags.

these are 1 inch high and weigh in at 30 grams.

The minis are 3/8 inch high and weigh around 1.8 grams each.

I got 28 of these in this lot, but got muddled taking pictures. I havent decided to take these out of the cards.

I thoroughly enjoy going through this thread.

Here's something recently found amongst my mother's stuff.

Not sure of the numbers, but I think the bronze was 500, and the silver 100.

She also had a boxed Franklin mint set from the early 1960's, but must have sold it.

Very nice! those are very interesting, I have several similar town various-centenary medals. I have one from Palmer Mass.

Do you know the name of the mint? is there edge engraving? those are not in the Numista catalog. you could add them.

Jamais l'or n'a perdu la plus petite occasion de se montrer stupide. -Balzac

More flags. These ones are enameled. Which is nice.

They left white parts unpainted, so lots of silver shows through.

Includes the pamphlets.

Jamais l'or n'a perdu la plus petite occasion de se montrer stupide. -Balzac

No mint marks on the Northfield medals. I believe they were lost-wax cast. Nothing on the bronze edge, but the silver edge is machine engraved “STER-68”.

Is your Palmer MA bicentennial from 1952, or 1976?

That one is way cool. I'm starting to go through my mother's collection and found a couple from Wolf Lauffer II.

He and two brothers,  Hans and Matheus all made counters.

Wolf II became master die-maker in 1612, and died in 1632. His son Wolf III, and nephew Conrad carried on the tradition.

ZacUK, I just noticed from an early post, you have a Hans Lauffer. Well done!

Ah yes, from seven days ago. Thanks for all information. Glad you like.  :)

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins

Just found these at my Father-in-Law's house…

90km 1960's (???)

I know they were awarded for public skating competitions, much like we currently have with half marathons and marathon running events that are open to the public.  It appears the last one was in 2012 and was sponsored by Unox. https://www.schaatstochten.nl/stolwijkselansingtocht.php

Can anyone tell me a bit more?

Something other than flags, but, well, more Franklin Mint.

Actually Le Médaillier of Paris France, a Franklin  affiliated mint.

1 2

3 4

One of the privy marks is in a different spot on each . the diamond on the right is LM's mark.

I will be adding these to the catalog.

Now here is a little challenge.

There were 12 of these in the series. The subjects were these:

1 General of the Armies of the Republic
2 First Consul of the Republic
3 At St. Bernard Pass
4 Awarding the Cross of Honor
5 Crowned Emperor
6 Battle of Austerlitz
7 Napoleon and his epoque at the Battle of Friedland
8 Marriage to Marie-Louise of Austria
9 "General Bonaparte" by David
10 Retreat from Moscow
11 Waterloo
12 St. Helena

I can guess which one is #2, but which other ones do I have?

The famous David painting of N crossing the Alps at St Bernard pass is most likely depicted on #3

#9, might be modeled on David's unfinished portrait of General Napoleon. David's other pictures of N are of The Emperor, as far as I can find.

The others are probably modeled on contemporary paintings as well. I'd like to know.

Good find, thanks. Some manipulation in PhotoScape reveals the images well enough.

They are not in the above listed order and the last one is upside-down.

Sure enough, center row left is David's  Unfinished Portrait, and right next to it is At St. Bernards Pass.

I've been on a cross country roadtrip for the past week, nothing super exciting, just picked up every token and crushed every penny I could find.

I have this one. Sure looks like the same workshop. also says STER on the edge with a serial number.

38mm, 27.5 g.

Jamais l'or n'a perdu la plus petite occasion de se montrer stupide. -Balzac

Thanks for that. I agree the Palmer and Northfield were made in the same shop.

I should have provided this before.

Weight : 27.664 grams

Diameter: 37.02 mm

In both cases, committee's would have opted for the lowest cost per coin. From what I understand, making dies would involve a much higher initial cost, but lower costs after maybe 10,000 or so. I'm not sure.

These were much lower mintages, so I'd have to suggest were lost-wax. It would be nice to know where, but I haven't found any evidence.

Here is a mint that uses STER on the edge.

Only one somewhat damaged find recently - a ‘Cat Coin’ (with denticles - although the ones on mine seem a little longer ???) from NL.  Can anyone tell me what they were used for?

What can you get with Catcoin?😻

my newest medal is cat related, very tangientially…

This piece is signed by Josette Hébert-Coëffin. She was an early 20th century sculptor and graphic artist.

This design I believe is called simply “République Française”. It was issued with various reverses, for a variety of events as awards or souvenirs. The center on this piece with the message “offert par…” is a plastic applique.

so about the cats - I also got a book about cats -

A very small edition, it has plates of pencil drawings by Josette Hébert-Coëffin

OK, one more

Bought a few old tokens that have just arrived through the door.

One Hull half penny 1791 that has come back to its roots (well within five miles of it), one Isle of Man 1831 half penny token and this one seems to be a variation of the one already listed on here that has an over stamp so may need to add it as a variation unless I just missed seeing it…. I'm absolutely loving the variety and stuff you guys have been showing off this month!,

I have not been able to get too many interesting additions.  I did snag a few more bullion rounds that I thought were interesting.

Some of my more recent finds from a much larger lot from Thanet…

I know the rectangular item is an apothecaries weight, but I'm not sure about the medallion.  Could this be a wine medal?

I've just added the Souvenir Dollar to the catalogue, but I cant identify the other medal/token.  Any suggestions?

Pity about the loop !!!
