ID pls (China – private issue note ID)

1 post • viewed 41 times

Dear All.

Can someone ID it?

-My research: during the pre-Boxer Rebellion era (circa 1900), private merchant banks in treaty-port cities like Tianjin issued informal “promissory notes” (often called bianqian, huizi, or merchant certificates) as surrogates for silver or local currency.-

Are this types of private-issue notes even cataloged ?

Thanks.
Best, Mojca
