French 25 Centimes 1924 Display item?

I have this French 25 Centimes with a date of 1924.

It is Uniface with a smooth edge. It weighs 200grams and if non-magnetic. The width is 109mm!

I bought it for £5 as an interesting item, does anyone know anything about what this would be used for? and what it's history might be. 25 Centimes is not a lot of money?
