Hello, I've recently been trying to obtain coins from Imperial and Colonial Brazil. While reviewing Numista, I came across a problem: the difficulty of separating them by period. My suggestion is to create sections that represent these periods:

Colonial (1500-1822)
Imperial (1822-1889)
Republic (1889-Today)

This would make things much easier. This type of division already exists for some countries and territories here on Numista, such as Russia, France, and Georgia.

Furthermore, I noticed another problem, which I mentioned in another thread, that I haven't received a response to.

Portugal also used Brazilian colonial coins in its other territories, resulting in duplicate coins in the site, with differing descriptions and information.

Although Brazil gained its independence in 1822, the other territories remained colonies until the so-called "Carnation Revolution," which led to the independence of Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, and São Tomé and Príncipe between 1974 and 1975.

Therefore, all these colonies would also require a revision of the coin list up to 1822. Because of this, one idea is to include a section on Portuguese colonial territories for the years 1500 to 1822. This would simplify the catalog somewhat and avoid duplicates.

Those are already separated by rulling authorities.

Those are already separated by rulling authorities.

Yes, they are separated by governing authority. But now my question is: Why isn't it possible to separate them this way? Russia is subdivided like that. What would be the impediment?

And other question, for example, the "20 réis" coin. In the Brazilian section, there are two different varieties for the same authority. Meanwhile, in Angola, which is literally the same coin, it's unified as a single coin. And this occurs across on other types too.

Angola 20 réis João V

N#351080

Brazil 20 réis João V

N#78444

N#38080

Would it then be possible to use the same catalog references in these countries? For the "20 réis" as an example, the references are:

Portuguese catalog
Gomes#J5 05 - J5 09

Brazilian catalog Type 1
Bentes#159.01-159.11

Brazilian catalog Type 2
Bentes#164.01-164.06; 166.01; 165.01-165.10; 160.01-160.02; 161.01

We separate when there is a substantial territorry change.

Oh, I see. Brazilian territory underwent a lot of change during the colonial period, but after that, only a few states changed, and internal divisions.

Regarding the main topic, would there be any problem with me changing the references? I have two different Brazilian catalogs on hand, and I can find a portuguese one. I can do the rough part of changing the catalog reference codes.

I also noticed that there are some missing variants. I can do that too, but it's more difficult.

Rather than changing, it would be nice to have both references listed.

Yes, I'll try to put both. Thanks!
