1970 S Lincoln Cent with doubled date only [machine doubling ; novelty only] [solved]

Hi there, I work in a numismatic/hobby store, and I am looking through US error and varieties coins. Then I stumbled upon the famous 1970 S cent with a double die on the obverse. From what I understand, usually the doubling shows in the motto and Liberty, but mine only really has doubling in the date and mintmark… Therefore, is it worth as much, or is it a sub-variety ? Just like the 1955 cent, which is worth considerably less when the doubling is only minor and imcomplete…  ? Before pricing it, I'd like your input.

Thanks

Ginger

Hello 🤖

Without pictures, it will be very difficult for anyone to help you. Could you please post clear pictures of each side of your item?

Please note that this is an automatic message. Feel free to ignore if it is not relevant.

You have a coin that has machine doubling and not doubled die. (I assume not having any pictures at which to look).  Mintmarks at that time were not put on the die until ready for use at whatever mint location. The mint mark was put on by hand with a hammer and punch.  Any die doubling would have already been done and would not include the mint mark. So, it would be worth considerably less than a real 1970S DDO.

BTW…Numista ID 176…impressive!

But the date is doubled as well. Anything else is regularly struck. Hence I wonder (or rather, I think) it is not the true rarity.

Here we go. Thank God, there are electronic microscopes. For those wondering, yes this one can snap pictures, but we do not have the  card, which is not included. Hence the smart phone pictures of the screen… I had to improvise with what I had .

I think I see a tiny doubling of the leg of the R of Liberty… Otherwise, nothing else.

Again, if the mint mark is also doubled as you said then it can't be a doubled die like the 1970S DDO. It's machine doubling.

Ok. I read it had no value, that's just a novelty. I didn't know about machine doubling.

Thank you !
