This entry describes 2 clearly different banknotes

Discussion about Peru • 500 Intis

I would like to discuss something that I have argued with a moderator some time ago.

In my opinion, Peru 500 Intis P#134a and P#134b are clearly different banknotes that should have separate entries. They are not 2 versions of the same banknote. The difference is clearly visible with the naked eye under normal light and is not related to signatures, dates or serial numbers.

In addition, the issuer treated them as different banknotes, not 2 versions of the same. https://www.bcrp.gob.pe/docs/Publicaciones/Libro-Billetes/Libro-Billetes-BCRP.pdf   Pages 177 and 179

- P#134a has a vertical pattern of maroon chevron like lines that is 8mm wide and overlaps the watermark region and the design to the right of it.

- Almost half way up there is an Inka symbol with brown and green.

- The background pattern is green and yellow.

- P#134b replaces this with a vertical pattern with red diagonal lines that includes Inka designs. The pattern is 9.5mm wide and hidden inside is written “500 PERU 500” in green. The text can sort of be noticed under natural light.

- The same Inka symbol appears almost half way up but on this banknote it is red and green.

- The background pattern was changed to go from red and green on the left, to yellow and green towards the right.

In addition, P#134a was only issued in 1985 while P#134b was only issued in 1987. Yet, Numista’s stated issue date of 1985 to 1987 appears like an attempt to link them together. This range is skipping over a similar banknote (P#135) which is treated as a different banknote and was only issued in 1986.

In Summary:

P#134a is one banknote, issued in 1985 with the indicated visible details, few microfibers and UV text on the watermark area.

P#135 was a different banknote issued in 1986. The vertical pattern of P#134a was replaced by the vertical pattern with red diagonal lines and inka images. The background pattern was changed to include red and fade into yellow. The Inka simbol was moved down, its brown was changed to red and “Quinientos Intis” was moved to the right. No microfibers were added and no UV security features where used.

P#134b was a different banknote issued in 1987. It was a further development of P#135. As with P#134a, the Inka simbol was moved back up and the “Quinientos Intis” was moved back to the left; but as opposed to P#134a, it kept the red vertical design with inka imagery, the red and green inka symbol  and the red on the background of P#135. “500 PERU 500” was added in green inside the vertical pattern. A high concentration of microfibers were added.
