Canada 25 Cents 1967

Numista shows two coins, an 80% Silver variety and a 50% Silver variety.  It shows the 80% variety weighing 5.83 grams and the 50% variety weighing 5.05 grams.  I've been searching for this lighter coin for some time now without any luck.  Now, I see that in “A Guide Book of Canadian Coins and Tokens” by James Haxby it says that these coins are “not visually distinguishable, and they share the same size and weight.”

Perhaps a correction to the page for the 50% coin is called for, if this is true.

If they do weigh the same, is there some other test to distinguish them?

Without pictures, it will be very difficult for anyone to help you. Could you please post clear pictures of each side of your item?

Yes, there is a way to distinguish them, by using ‘super magnets’, as demonstrated by member rsirian1 in this thread:

As explained on both coin pages the weights in Numista are from the Royal Canadian Mint's web site.  The issue you raised about them being the same weight is also commented on.  It would be nice to prove they are the same weight (if they are).

The shop that I buy most of my junk silver from has a Sigma Metalics precious metal verifier. I have 100 1967 quarters that have been checked. 55 are 80% and 45 are 50%. They all weigh the same (5.83 range). Here is a picture of the machine with a different coin on it though.

Not definite proof but good enough for me.

Sounds like you have enough evidence to replace the current weight with the same 5.83 grams and maybe add your “proof” to the comments section. You could also add the Coinsandcanada.com link that also says it is 5.83g.

Hello.  I created that page in 2021.  It originally had 5.83g as the weight. It was changed to 5.05 g some time afterwards based on the mint's values.  Here is the post that lead to its creation and weight change https://en.numista.com/forum/topic114615.html and here is a screenshot of how it looked in 2022:
