Wont mention who but today i saw one, I saw a 5 franc (burundi 1968 i think) for 22$ in a swaplist. Outrageous af. And his prices where also outrageous

You just have to match your swap values to those … or simply go elsewhere.

So what? It is the swapper's right to demand very high prices, and my right to completely ignore them then. No harm done.

I agree, this kind of thread is unhelpful and likely attracts the kind of commentary we would all prefer to do without on a weekend :). If one doesn’t agree with the asking $ on a swap list, just move on.

Appreciate that you  had a rethink. I have been in that instance where a swap proposal goes sideways when people get stuck on valuing their coins too highly (and often undervaluing the other sides coins). i politely ended the negotiating by simply saying we are too far apart and left it at that

+1

It is quite simple actually: both swappers should agree on the same “scale” - either values from Numista or NGC. Anything else is unbalanced and source of discontent.

Alrighty

No, you are not. There are plenty people here that have listed their items worth more than the value of gold.  You are right to point that out too, imo, so that new comers can learn here.

https://paperbanknotes.blogspot.com - Any offer for exchange is most welcome.

Agreed, it’s easy for experienced members to ignore, but so many inexperienced members get ripped off.

Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins

No you're not, you are a person with principles. No doubt like me, you can't stand to see people get swindled and ripped off by these people who massively overvalue common or very ordinary coins, and then seen naive and new collectors get hoodwinked by them.

Sometime later on, the new collector gets wise and realises they have been taken advantage of, and leaves the hobby or feels all sellers are greedy and crooks. Anyone who wants to pass off cheap muck metal coins worth a few cents each as rare collectibles is a charlatan in my eyes.

Not every scam is as obvious as Harish Kumararangadan from Bangalore wanting to sell you a real Brasher Doubloon for $500. Some people may believe a 1986 cent from Canada is rare because the leaf has extra barb etc.

Its just as bad as the people who sell things like a 1971 British 2p coin for £10,000 on feebay or Chinese junk sellers selling fake US Morgan dollars for $50 each in fake holders from the Zhanguijang People's Communistikov Metalworkny as real coins.

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

and i think you alr identified the person

I dont think the person i was orginially talked about someone bad since i found out he was from ukraine but the thing that set me off was how he was passing off a 5$ coin as 22$ and mabye even “special swap”
