The GEM is finally opening !

I’m excited to share some wonderful news that many of you may have already heard, The Grand Egyptian Museum, - GEM as they call it -  is finally opening . The Official opening ceremony is on Saturday, November 1st (Tomorrow :D )  and the museum will be open its doors to the public on Tuesday November 4th. To commemorate this historic occasion, the Egyptian government has approved the release of six silver coins, expected to go on public sale next week. The current approved mintage is limited to 500 pieces per coin, already added to Numista see here .

The government has also approved the production of six gold coins of the same design, with an extremely limited mintage of just 12 pieces !!! per coin - See here

This is very exciting news, I've read about the new museum and hope to see it some day. It is in Giza very near the pyramids so that will make tours very easy!

My family went to Egypt about 10 years ago and we spent a day at the original Egyptian Museum in Cairo. Wow! Also loved the Nubian Museum in Aswan.

PS: I just saw the release prices for those commemorative coins, they are very expensive! I would have increasd mintage to maybe 10,000, lowered the price, and sold them as souvenirs at the museum. But at these prices I doubt I will ever buy one :(

That is true they are quite expensive 😔
