Gold British Sovereign 1917 BP – Help with ID & Value

4 posts • viewed 142 times

Hi everyone,

I have a gold British Sovereign from 1917 with the BP mint mark.

Obverse: King George V, inscription “GEORGIVS V D.G. BRITT: OMN: REX F.D. IND: IMP:”

Reverse: Saint George slaying the dragon by Benedetto Pistrucci, date 1917 below and BP mint mark next to it

Condition: In good condition

I’d love help identifying its exact type, estimating its collector grade, and any idea of its market value.

Thanks a lot!

B.P. are the designer's initials. There is no mint mark on your coin so it is this one.  N#11463

Beware: the 1917 Sovereign is widely counterfeited.

Thanks a lot for the info!
I now understand that the “B.P.” are the designer’s initials, not a mint mark.
I’ll make sure to carefully check the coin’s authenticity, especially since the 1917 Sovereign is widely counterfeited.
