I left to OP exercise of listing all countries from Suez to Gibraltar.

Why does the OP not use the search option in Numista?

I think his suggestion was very helpful. Isn't it more rewarding when you solve your own questions by yourself?  Wouldn't you feel a sense of accomplishment doing that?  Then you could present your findings to the group and ask if you missed any.

This has nothing to do with socalled ‘hate’ but everything with your laziness. (or this is ‘hate’ too?)
Nowadays people start to talk about ‘hate’ immediately if they are corrected or they disagree with somebody else,
  very annoying imo.

Video Games liking isn't bullshit, in fact it's most used type of screen technology used by the new generation this decade. Maybe to a 60 year old gramp that may sound like brainrot.

Silvery stuff was mostly Ottoman. Egypt's non ottoman silver starts only on page 3 in search. They had only half of century til people stopped using silver in circulation globally. And we are even not going back in time to stuff burned by angry Italians.

If you include colonies, most of Africa might have some silver in circulation at some point.

British West Africa included Nigeria, Ghana (Gold coast), Sierra Leone, The Gambia and British Cameroons. Their coins were only silver 6d, 1/- and 2/- from 1911 to 1920 and then they switched to brass.

British East Africa was Kenya, Tanganyika (1920 - 1961), Zanzibar, Uganda, Somaliland and had base silver coins until 1947 (Florin/shilling was 20% silver after 1920). Copper, brass and nickel were their other coins.

Zambia/Malawi were part of Nyasaland Federation and various Rhodesias that used South Rhodesian silver coins between 1932 and 1947 when they went cupro nickel. Before 1932 they used South African silver, which was used in a line extending from Namibia across to Zambia and down the Zambezi on the Mozambique border. Even now South African currency dominates that nexus except Portuguese Mozambique which uses Meticals.

Portugal issued silver coins (64 or 72% silver) as late as 1960 for Angola, Mozambique, Sao Tome, Guine Bissau. I don't think France issued any silver outside the Magreb after the 1940s.

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

South Africa's last circulating silver coins were struck in 1964.

Aidan.

Actually silver rand 1 coins were issued from 1965 to 1969 and these circulated. 80% silver. In 1970 they went cupronickel and silver rands became part of sets only.

Legal tender gold 1 and 2 rand were minted until 1979, but only in proof sets.

Late 1960s silver rands with a 1942 Halfcrown.

1977 was the first year for the nickel 1 Rand coin.

From 1970, the silver 1 Rand coins were in sets only.

1990 was the year of 3 types of 1 Rand coins - which I do have in my collection.

Aidan.

And a good few Ethiopian silvers. It is an ancient country that managed to avoid colonisation, and has a rich history of trading to the East.

And Mozamique Silvers thanks to Vasco da Gama. Follow the money as they say;

That map ended the Ottoman choking of the silk road, their empire declined and European powers rose.

Actually Egypt as a Republic minted  silver circulated standard and commemorative coins from 1956 to 1973

Referee for: Egypt

From my research and specialty: Egypt (silver piastres), Ethiopia (silver birr under Menelik II), Morocco (silver dirhams and riyals), South Africa (ZAR silver shillings and later British issues), Liberia (19th‑century silver coinage), Tunisia (Ottoman and French protectorate silver coins), British West Africa (silver pennies and shillings in Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Gambia), Belgian Congo (silver francs), German East Africa (silver rupees), Italian Somaliland and Eritrea (colonial silver coins), and French colonies such as Algeria, Senegal, and Madagascar (silver francs aligned with French standards).

Good list colonial John, but no silver pennies were issued. Silver coloured maybe, but the West African pennies and fractions were Cupronickel, a worthless base metal alloy used for low denomination coins before 1947, when it became a replacement for “silver” denominations.

Apparently some African people did not like brown and dark coloured coins, so cheaper pale metals like Cupro nickel (British, Portugal), aluminium (France) and brass (Most of the colonial rulers) were used.
