Japanese Koban coin [solved]

2 posts • viewed 82 times

I found this ”coin” digging through old porcelain. It’s 15mm wide and 25 mm high. I found it on google lens but it says that it should be silver coated. Mine looks like copper. I have no way to weigh it right now. I could not find it in Numista. I’m thinking it’s a reproduction. Any info would be appreciated.

Definitely not 1 million ryo like stated on the object … not even 1 ryo that's for sure.

Probably a souvenir novelty item from Izawaya (Kyoto) a “small goods shop” specialist in traditional Japanese / Kyoto-style fashion & accessories.
