Good evening,

I currently started filing my banknote collection and stumbled over the enclosed variation of a Zambian 20 Kwacha note from 2015.

N#222843  According to the Numista catalog the banknote in the shown layoutwas printed only until 2014. The note in my collection shows a combination,- which might not yet been observed (if it is not a fake?),-  of  N#222843  (Colours and securitystrip) and the follow up N# 204029 (5 stripes on the right and signature)

Please find pictures of observe and reverse enclosed.

May be someone has any welcome information about it and would be willing to share it here.

kind regards adiba

Hello adiba,

Yours is definitely P# 59a (N#204029) and not a fake. The security thread for P# 59a is different from the rest of P# 59. The main difference between P# 52 and P# 59 is the marks for the visually impaired on the right hand side of the note. I personally believe that P# 59a should have a separate page because it does not fully share the same design and security features of either P# 52 nor the other variants of P# 59 respectively. I’ll ask for @Pcoetzee5’s opinion on this matter as they are the catalog referee for banknotes of Zambia.

Best,

Daniel

The note that Adiba is showing differs so much from the othet two that I whole hearteldly agree that it needs a new page.

Please submit the new request and I can approve.

Dear Daniel and Philip

thanks a lot for sorting the matter out so fast😊. Since I am just a „starter“ with the forum please allow the question if I need to do anything now or let me know if anything else is needed.

with kind regards

Hi adiba,

The best thing you can do right now is create a page in the catalog. There are two way you can do this: duplicating an existing page (more useful in your situation because you're making a page that is very similar to an existing page (N#204029)) and creating a new page from scratch. To make a duplicate page, head to N#204029, scroll to the bottom and click the duplicate page link. From there you can upload photos/scans of your note, and Philip will be able to guide you through the rest after you submit the request. Numista is a site that encourages member participation in improving the accuracy of our catalog, and this is probably one of the best opportunities to get your input in the catalog.

Best regards,

Daniel

Is this not not simply a missing variety of N#222843 ?

Looks the same. We are just missing a 2015 year line

Hi @ajbbarbados,

@adiba’s note has the security thread of N#222843 and the marks for the visually impaired found on N#204029. It doesn’t fit in with the rest of the variants on either, calling for the creation of a new page for P# 59a only. The 2015 20 Kwacha (P# 59a) only has this variant from my research online.

Best regards,

Daniel

Ahh I missed that. In that case yes a new page is needed. Very interesting find for sure
