Custom short collection names instead of just the first letter

I would like to suggest a feature I have felt is missing for quite a while now. I will start by saying english isn't my first language and it's a bit hard to explain so bear with me, I will do my best… The feature I want to request is simply to be able to enter short (maybe up to 3 letter) names that show up in those little bubbles for collections instead of only being able to see the first letter of the collection name. The main reason why I personally want this is because my “collections” on numista are sorted in the exact same way as my physical collection, each numista “collection” is a physical album. Because of that, along with some other albums I have 2 different sets of albums sorted alphabetically one for 50x50mm flips and one for 70x70mm ones, thus “Big A-Z” and “Small A-Z”. The issue is that now for these sets when browsing my collection on numista all I see is “B” or “S” unless I hover over each one individually. The first response would be for me to rename my collections so that the first letter is representative of what is in it but I dont want to do that because then wherever on numista there are lists of my “collections” they will be all mixed up, the reason all the ones in the same section are starting with “Big” is so that the collections themselves are also neatly sorted on numista since they are sorted alphabetically. And even if I did rename them I would still only see 1 letter which would not be representative of for example the albums that go U-Z or the ones where I have specifically russian stuff. I would much rather be able to see for example “U-Z” instead of “U” or “B” for the “Big UVWYZ” album, "RU1", "RU2" etc. instead of just “R” for the russian ones. I feel like this would make browsing your collection on numista just that little bit nicer. I just quickly threw together how this could look by drawing and by using inspect element.

I have a similar issue but I can tell the difference between collection Need and collection Non-US because of the color code.

It looks like you're using the same color for all collections. You have a lot more collections than I so it may now work for you.

Yeah im using the same color for all the “Big” ones, another for the “Small” ones, another for the russian ones etc. If I used a different color for each one I would run out of colors very quick, also the colors match the color of the physical label on each album irl.

Ah… I see. Then I agree. I don't see a down side to showing more letters. There's plenty of room on that line.

We can't do much with the field yet (maybe more interactivity could be added in the future where you can browse by it etc) but I think storage location (if you have enabled it) would be a better place to use your 3 letter codes.

But with such a large collection as yours, automatic scripts and the API would be needed and It would still take months.

I was also thinking along those lines but back filling that information on 20,000 coins seems daunting.

yeah I only found out about the “storage location” feature like 10k items in so I just use the different collections themselves as the storage location. I feel like it may even be easier that way, it's 1 less field to fill out when logging something. and yeah as you said it's not that interactive anyways.
