Hello all,

I have some Roman coins that have tried to look up but was having issues with the lettering as that is not my forte.

1.

Diameter: 19 to 21 mm in diameter

2.

Diameter 18 to 20 mm in diameter

3.

Diameter: 19 to 20 mm in diameter

Hope to hear what these are!

The first one, the easiest of the lot, is N#62593 .

For the other two, not only they are way more worn, the photos are loading with a 90º rotation when I click to enlarge them.

What I can tell about them right now is that all 3 are from the 3rd century, due to the radiate crown on the portraits.

Hi

the first is:

roman empire, gallienus 253-268ad, antoninianus

Marti pacifero (to Mars the peacemaker)

Numista Ref  N#62593

The second coin is an Antoninianus of Claudius II 268-270. Rev Fortuna Redvx

numista Ref N#290129

The last one is Valerian

victoria avgg

N#286130

ARiley

The last one is Valerian

victoria avgg

N#286130

You sure about the last one? The letters after VICTORIA doesn't look like AVGG.

No indeed, it’s VICTORIA GM, and the obverse is of Gallienus, not Valerian. Note that the obverse legend ends in GM also. RIC doesn’t have this particular combination of obverse and reverse legends, however Wildwinds shows an example.

Also for the second coin, the obverse legend seems to have too many letters for it to simply be IMP CLAVDIVS AVG. I’m wondering if it could actually be IMP C L DOM AVRELIANVS AVG ? In which case it would be Aurelian, not Claudius II Gothicus.

wacko

Found it there. Listed as Goebl 147.

However, we have this one N#286641 .

Could we use it as placeholder? The only difference is that the obverse lettering on RIC 176 ends in GERM and on this case it ends in GM.

Wildwinds sometimes describes a coin as being a variant of an existing RIC type. Similarly, you could refer to the coin as being N#286641 var. Or you could create a new Numista page based on N#286641, and use Göbl 147 as the reference.
