1929R Italy 10 Lire Contemporary Counterfeit or where any made in Copper-Nickel?

1 post • viewed 43 times

I have come across a 10 Lira coin from 1929 that has the right diameter (27 mm) and thickness (2.2 mm), but only weighs 7.36 grams (instead of the 10 grams it should be for silver). Did Italy mint any copper-nickel versions of this coin? Or is this a contemporary (or modern) counterfeit? It looks nicely worn but of course, not over 2-½ grams worth of wear (it is non-magnetic, but has a dubious rotated reverse). See photos below. Interested in thoughts as in my search, I found a numismatic company selling one of these “vintage fakes” on eBay for 18 euros (https://www.ebay.ca/itm/304766491945).🤔
