Coin Shower - 5 Year Old Collector

8 posts • viewed 231 times

Recently got my 5 year old son into coin collecting and I am happy to see there is a good amount of interest from him…a win for Dad. Great hobby for a kid as many of you know…math, history, geography, language, science…hits on a lot.  Had a few of my relatives mail him some of their spare change via USPS and he was over joyed with receiving mail and coins to boot!!

Wanted to see if there was any interest in this community to send a letter to Carson with a coin or two included in the envelope. PM me for address and make sure that you include your username in the letter so I can send you a proper thank you.

If you have a son or daughter in a similar beginners mode of collecting send me that info too, would love to reciprocate and help restock the pool of coin collectors (I know we need some youth).

Thank you for reading,

Scott

Thank you all for the interest and positive messages sent to me…a great community we have here.

It's a good hobby to get you good at quizzing too.  I watch the quiz shows on TV, and quite often they have the question “what is the currency of ”X""

What? Me Worry

That is right. Maybe I can get a little better at Jeopardy now. Good at sports category and ok at geography, maybe current coinage will pop up occasionally. Still cannot imagine will know more than 1 of 6 answers.

Scott, a letter will be sent today or tomorrow. Please let me know when it gets there. The USPS has been less than efficient, or even competent recently.

It brings up a broader topic, which I hope the Numista team might weigh in on; namely that there are folks with duplicates who would like to pass them on to young collectors, or others who might have trouble getting them. For myself, I m trying to do it one on one.

My mother's family is from Detroit (and also German). My grandparents had a summer cottage in Leamington, Ont. As a kid, many fond memories. I still have a brother in Linden, a bit west of you, I think.

Yes, I will alert you when received.  USPS…always a surprise. Thank you again.

Metro Detroit is a wonderful area to live. Winters can be a bit much some years, but really enjoyable place overall. Linden, yes a little NW of where I live…more of a Flint suburb…actually an area I have spent very little time although fairly close.

My letter is going tomorrow!

Hope it arrives safely to your son. 😁

:)

Greatly appreciate it…I am sure that it will. Excited to see him open and identify.
