British medals

Hi all, I wanted to share with everybody that after three years I have added every British medal I could find from the Acts of Union to the turn of the millennium. I have always liked British coins since I started collecting, and the medals even more so. After seeing how much the medal section had grown on the site, I wanted to make a project of my own that would leave a lasting impact on the site and add all commemorative medals that already have image permission on the site. I think I can confidently say Numista is becoming or has now become the largest database for British medals!

I would like to share my deepest thanks to @shivadescending for his contributions to British medals on the site, sharing reference information, general suggestions, identification, and for standardizing the British medal section. A thank you goes to@apuking for adding mints and engravers missing on the site and assisting with reference additions. Another thank you to all of the auction sites for permission for their images, in particular to Noonans, which in particular has the largest database of British medals I have seen and has been particularly helpful with identification. Lastly a huge thank you to all of the Numista members and referees who have added all of their medals and expanding the catalog even further!

As it stands the UK section has over 8000 commemorative, award, and art medals. There are still plenty of medals I have missed, as I focused more on Victorian medals and later. To further this project, I will add English and Scottish medals before 1707, then add medals from 1707 onward from all auction sites. I had also skipped the EVII coronation, an event with probably the largest production of medals, which I will revisit at a later date. Medals that I continue to not add to the site include collection medals, small religious or award medals (usually for sports), enameled medals, calendar medals, mint medals, and fantasy coins. Some future projects I have considered are Mexican, Japanese, or Austrian imperial medals in no particular order.

If you have not seen the British medal section, have a look!

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins

Thank you Kenny,

I was amazed by the huge amount of British and Commonwealth Medals added to Numista this past 1 or 2 years.

Great Job.

Im intrigued on Japanese medals, I have some books on Japanese medals but I do find information available there to be quite limited.
