Hello here i have a

2½ Gulden - Wilhelmina - Curaçao – Numista https://share.google/HoA55kHAxJNGHlTTk

I have photos of it both with good and neutral lighting, i really want to send to to NGC but im curious if anyone could estimate its value and grade? Id say minimum MS61 but dont know about the value. The person I spoke to at the coin shop said it looks MS.

Nice coin! 👍

In my opinion sending it to grading depends almost entirely on if you’re going to sell it in the future, if you’re keeping it in your collection there’s in my opinion no reason spending money to lock it in a slab.

For the grade, I’d say you’re right about ms60-62.

:)

My opinion is that this example would indeed grade MS60+. Everything you want in high grade example is there, UNC details, luster, cartwheel effect, etc. Unfortunately a few minor distractions on the fields and scratches on the bust but nothing I see that keeps it from grading high. The degree and specific grade of MS is the only thing I wont commit to out of hand but guessing it could grade MS63 and resulting valueranging by just a few dollars whatever it grades at with possibly with a note about the obvious scratches or “bag marks”. Beautiful example to my eye.

Yes I believe for personal collection it isnt worth it to spend the money on it however i do love this coin and whilst id never sell it perhaps if I have kids in the way distant future they could do something with it one day.

The scratches are unfortunate but I believe the toning in this coin makes it up! In my opinion this is the nicest example ive seen of this coin.

As for the NGC coin price, I dont know if i fully agree with it as i searched for other online and could not find any cheaper than 70-90 GBP for an un-graded one. Perhaps I wasnt looking in the right place but I personally believe it could get more than 90 GBP once graded but I have never graded a coin before and only own 3 graded ones so I am by no means an expert.

NGC price guides are only suggested pricing in U.S.D. Nothing written in stone and nobody can predict what a buyer who really wants one of these in this condition is ultimately willing to pay. Everybody disagrees about exact grade and price about anything especially when the difference is between a buyer and seller. Seller wants to get as much as possible and sees MS63 and buyer wants to pay as little as possible and sees a MS 60. Still slab worthy in my mind.

Edit. If you look at the Numista page and look at auction price realized, you will see a 1944D MS64 sold (including buyers premium) in September 2025 for about what NGC estimates the value to be.  They dont pull their estimates out of a hat.
