Phyrigia, Aezanis- Gaius (Caligula) 37-41 AD. Lollios Klassikos Magistrate, 21mm, 4.94g, 1h. RPC 1 3080- Zuess reverse holding eagle and long scepter.  Obverse reads Greek:  ΓΑΙΟΣ ΚΑΙΣΑΡ = Gaius Caesar. Reverse inscription Greek:    LΑΙΖΑΝΙΤΩΝ ΕΠΙ ΛΟΛΛΙΟΥ ΚΛΑϹϹΙΚΟΥ = of the Aezanites, under Lollius Classicus.  Historical details about Classicus are drawn almost entirely from ancient numismatics (the study of coins):Coinage: He and Lollius Rufus are credited as magistrates on a series of bronze (AE) coins struck during Caligula's reign.Design: The obverse of the coin features a radiate head of Caligula, while the reverse depicts the god Zeus standing and holding an eagle and a scepter, accompanied by the inscription "ΛΟΛΛΙΩΝ" (Lollians) and the magistrates' names.Reference: These coins are cataloged in the Roman Provincial Coinage database as RPC I, 3086.  Always look for Caligula’ hair low on the nape of the neck along with other Julio Claudians such as Germanicus and Tiberius.
