Hi,

In refereeing various British silver medals, the issue of no mark available for Chester Assay Office has come up. We have symbols and key words for Birmingham, London, Edinburgh and Sheffield, but not for Chester, which was active until 1962.

The symbol should be a shield of arms as found here: https://www.fetheray.com/blogs/news/the-chester-assay-office?srsltid=AfmBOopuhhCIBD2QuvyXuR0bNUUmyw62LYDD9uYYAwOEN-CDGpn-RoDO

The key word “Arms” is not being used for any other mint mark, and could be used here. Shield is already allocated and linked.

Could this be considered, as currently having to put the Chester Assay Office in comments.

Thanks

Simon

Here is one page [1951-1962] and there are others

Indeed as stated … The Chester Assay Office closed on 24th August 1962
