Unable to send coins outside India ..!!!!!

Hello ,

I had my first swap confirmed outside India ( with a Numista friend from Russia ). The coins I send was via the registered post ( India post ).

The package did not clear the customs ( in fact they opened the package to confirm the article packed ). I got the package back from them with a letter to get a NOC certificate from RBI ( Reserve bank of India ...!!!!).

Has anybody else faced this problem ? If yes then what is the solution ?

Thanks for the help

sushil
No problems - I received coins registered post from a member in India last month, and last week a second swap was confirmed (so now in post) with the same member, so seems alright.  :)

P.S. Posted in India 14th June > received in UK 27th June = 13 days
and posted in UK 13th June > received in India 2nd July = 19 days

I think it depends what you put on the declaration. If you put "hobby supplies" or "metal souvenir buttons" or something like that it usually gets through.
Oh OK, in declaration I mentioned " COINS "; maybe I will take your suggestion and put "Hobby supplies"
I always write hobby supplies..unless it is really heavy then I write medallions.

You need to write "Hobby Items", Tick gift and put value $1. Also fill a CN22 not a CN23 form

If you write as above then there will be no issues. Also make the envelope as thin and flat as possible and coins should be taped securely ( wrapped in tissue of course).
I have sent coins from Brigade Road post office without any issues like this
Hi

From where you are shipping.
Below are the findings from my experience.
1. if you post from South India like Bangalore/Chennai/kerala .. your package will be caught in Chennai custom and get returned.
2. if you post from Hyderabad or Mumbai or Calcutta then no problem - it always goes out of India (even 100yrs old coin also).
3. I checked with RBI - as per them we can send coins worth 7500rs in post. Condition Commemorative coins  2 each. No other condition. Refer "Notification No.FEMA 6/RB-2000 dated May 2000"
But Chennai custom not agreeing .. still following up with them ..

so you try sending coins from your friend who stay in north India.

Mark,

interesting.. I just relocated to Chennai and based on the information given, looks like I need to swap only within India for time being...

It's terrible that you can't get coins out of India in certain areas :)

ye, problem was in the declaration  wording.  You should not write “ coins” . For customers it is like  a  red dress for bull .

I  always use “ Collectible items” price - $15. or  just “ collectibles” .

its ok, You will be lucky  and more  wise  in the  future.
