Now that the opening ceremonies of Sochi 2014 are out of the way, who wants to start posting some coins and notes from past Olympic games?
Recent 2014 Sochi coin
Vancouver 2010 dollar found in circulation recently (easy to find but I keep them around because Canadian commemoratives are surprisingly popular on Numista)
Canada 1988 $20 proof (part of a series with 1 troy ounce of silver per coin)
Found the Canada 2014 Sochi Olympics loonie in my change a week or two back!
I also own several other Olympic pieces, including the Inukshuk loonie above, though mine has turned fairly dark in an odd way (not an evenly-spread darkness). Will maybe try to post some more pictures soon.
A six year Numista absence makes the heart grow fonder... ?
Here firstly are all 29 coins of the last Olympic (and Paralympic) games in London.
I have handover coins as well - Beijing to London, and London to Rio - will add those later.
Shame it was only asked for coins and notes as I have a 114-year-old medallion made for the 1900 Olympics; shows an angel stealing the Olympic torch from a sleeping girl (or is he replacing it) ...
"The 1900 Summer Olympics were held in Paris, France, from May 14 to October 28, 1900 as part of the 1900 World's Fair."
"1900 Paris Exposition Universelle Internationale medal, in silver, designed by Oscar Roty, 35 x 51mm. (These medals were given to judges and other officials from the 1900 Olympics, which were part of the 1900 Exposition)."
I guess the Complete Medallion for 2012 Olympics counts, and the album ...
Apart from the handover coins, I also have the 1908-2008 London anniversary £2 coin,
and the Barcelona '92 high jump 25 Pesetas coin - a picture of all four ...
For Olympic Games all I have are the uk 2012 issues a couple of loonies and a 1964 japan 100 yen. The latter was brought back for my granda by his dad who was in the navy.
I'm more into the commonwealth games ones and can't wait for the 2014 50p !
