Russia - Muscovy - 1 Denga - Ivan IV (Ivan the Terrible)

VS

Greece - 5 Drachmai - George I WINNER

#1. I find Russian history very interesting (though very bloody at the same time!). For those of you who don't know, this coin was made when there was no country called Russia. Instead it was called the Grand Duchy of Muscovy (think: Moscow). However, in 1547 (the last year this coin was minted) Ivan IV "the Terrible" transformed this country into Russia (by making himself "Tsar of All Russias").
Fun fact: Ivan IV gave himself the title Ivan Grozny (Ivan the Awesome), which translated (incorrectly) to English as Ivan the Terrible.

Normally I don't like crude old coins (because I can't afford them :snif: ) but #1 is the winner for me because of its striking design and interesting place in history. The Greek coin is pretty average.

Not supprised I do believe that in old English the words awosome and awfull had opposite meaning to what they are today.

Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
