(Edit: it's the reverse I'm concerned with primarily. Here's a pic of mine: )
My Arabic isn't good enough to decipher more than the word "al-qirsh" so I can't work out the difference between them. So...which coin is the current numista picture of?[url=https://en.numista.com/forum/images/4de0f567c4cdd.jpg]
Yes, you're quite right Zac - it is the Abdul Hamid one. So I guess the question becomes why does the year belong to one coin and the lettering to another? Or is the mintage list for that one simply incomplete? (It's locked and claims to be complete, but I never know whence this information comes.)
The reason I hadn't even seen this coin is because I just searched for 1327, which didn't bring it up: so why did searching for the Arabic 'translation' of that bring it up? Especially as it's not in the mintage list anyway?
Mine is definitely the second, which it says is the "ascension year of Mehmed [Muhammad] V", 1327. You'll notice that the writing is all identical apart from the year. KM is 300.
What I think has happened is that the photo at the Numista entry en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces16959.html is for the wrong value of coin. The text that is different is the bit that I've now deciphered (with the help of that coins wiki page) as reading "rb' 'shr qrsh", or "tenth fourth penny" (ie 1/40 qirsh). What we're seeing is in fact this 1/20 qirsh coin: http://www.coinfactswiki.com/wiki/Egypt_AH1327_%282%29-H_1/20_qirsh.
So...as an admin, can you make the necessary changes?? I guess all that needs doing is replacing the current Reverse photo with the one I uploaded. How does that sound? (Though admittedly my coin has a hole in the middle, which isn't ideal..! Depending on copyright, perhaps we can just use the one from that coins wiki page?)
Your coin is a 1/40 qirsh km#300 Muhammad V. The date is according to the number under the tughra (obv).
Usually, there is no hole. Dates can be 1910-1911-1913.
But I would like to inform that the pics in numista is wrong (it is a 1/20 qirsh), and the diameter is 17.5, not 20 mm.
I have one in a VF condition; I'll try to put a good photo of it to replace this confusing description and photo.
Ok I am sending the following photos, without opening the coin mount, so may be you will not find a good quality of the photo. Tell me if it is OK, if not I 'll open the coin mount and try to make one better.
The coin is mine and the photo is also mine, so I' am authorizing you (only) to publish them (2 pics) on your site Numista.
