I would like to swap this coin for silver coins, but I have no Idea the value, one of the Numista team said it was a trail strike, dose that mean that there is only one? He also said that it has a minimum value of 100 USD, so what is its top value, should I sell it at auction or what??
I would argue that there is some question as to the true identity of this coin. Obviously, the heavy wear to both sides does tend to hamper any accurate identification, but the designs on both sides do resemble the Reales struck by the Central American Republic. A couple of deviations though:
> The lettering on the left-hand image (obverse?) does not say "Republico Del Centro De America".
> The Republic only existed between 1823 and 1839, although Costa Rica, Guatemala and Honduras continued to strike coins in the confederation style until 1850, 1851 and 1861 respectively.
The latter point then led me to what I believe is the true identity:
Honduras - State of Honduras (As a constituent state of the Central American Federation)
Real Coinage - 1832 to 1861
KM#20 4 Reales - Obverse lettering "MON.PROVISIONAL DEL EST. DE HOND."
Reverse lettering "LIBRE CREZCA FECUNDA" above with date below
Depending on the year struck, the metal is 6.25% Silver, 4% Silver, Copper or Copper-Lead Alloy
How would you grade this - VG? If so, Krause puts the value at between 8 and 16 USD
Do you have the coin? Do you know the metal? Can you tell the date from the coin?
Regards, Rick

well in the Km catalogue, it doesn't give a price for that coin (if it is a 1856TF); it only says "rare." I think that E-bay seller is being a bit optimistic about what it will fetch. Want to make any predictions about whether it sells?
All I did was look in my Krause and Mishler and when I saw the obverse didn't tally with Central American Republic, I dug a bit further - I love it when a plan comes together!
It's not all bad news on the value, either. There are 2 varieties listed for 1856, both with mintmark T (Tegucigalpa) but one is "G", valued at $8.50 for VG, and the other is "F", which is rare and no value is given in Krause (don't know what "G" and "F" are). This might explain why the eBay listing you refer to is up for $200!
