World coins chat: Puerto Rico

4 posts
Puerto Rico is the eastern most island of the Greater Antilles. Colonized by the Spanish in the early 16th century, it ignored the Bolivarian revolutions that swiped through most of New Spain in the early 19th century. With most of New Spain lost and Mexico minting its own currency, the Spanish introduced the Puerto Rican Peso banknotes on the island. Only in 1895, three years before the Spanish would cede the island to the victorious USA in the Spanish-American War, coins were introduced in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 40 centavos and 1 peso.

These are the only regular Puero Rican coins. I have no idea how scarce these are and they are still on my wishlist. How much should I pay for a VF or better?

Puerto Rico uses the US Dollar.
We should just notice Puerto Rico was named in 2 different US coinage programs: United States Mint's District of Columbia and United States Territories Quarters® Program and United States Mint's "America the Beautiful" Quarters® Program.
