This has turned up in a large coin lot I bought. It's 5g weight, 23.5mm and has a reeded edge. The design on the front is a mystery to me.
Is it anything other than artful engraving by someone who has found a uni-sided Victorian 1887 shilling and decided to make a pendant / medal ? .
It is called a love token. Usually a man would make it for a woman. Not too many jewelry stores around back then, everything made by hand. And a lot of money to get something made.
Edit they would make out of coins of the day or one with a date that meant something. Would start out with a coin and make a flat side.
