I have a coin/token/something from Canada and I was wondering if anyone knew what it was. It's from Victoria, B.C., has the Empress Hotel on it, and expired Sept. 30, 1978. Maybe it's just something that the hotel did, but it says it was valid anywhere in Victoria for $1. I'd upload a picture but my computer is not working so well at the moment.
Hi, I guess it's a token just like those we used to have in Quebec City during the Carnaval d'hiver, or like those used during the Stampede in Calgary, or any other town (there's plenty). In French we call them "dollars ou piastres de commerce", a town dollar. They had to be used within a limited period anywhere in a given city. You can list it here *tokens* of Canada, make sure that you check the token box.
Regards,
Ginger
