My local dealer challenged me to attribute this "Chinese" coin. I'm not familiar with Oriental coins, so it took me a while to figure out that it may not be Chinese. It may not even be real.

Nope its no Osaka coin it's from Kamaido C#1.2 ... one of the more common mon coins with a mint mark.
I would say its variation is DH#4.104 but Mon attribution is not easy so no guaranty.
I'm seeing several reference numbers, but no KM#.
Is there an on-line source that will teach me more about this coin and the other cataloging systems?
And does Numista have a registration slot for this coin?
Thanks all.

The registration field for this coin is the 2nd from above Japan - 1 Mon
The Krause & Mischler Catalog not only uses their own KM# but also cross-reference catalog listings like C#(William D. Craig) and Y#(R.S. Yeoman) from other numismatists these two are mostly for East Asia.
The catalog DH# number I stated is from 'Early Japanese Coins' by David Hartill.
For more information just google around a bit ifyou want to know more about mon or cash coins in general. For mor specific knowledge you will have to get some literature.
If 文 Kameido is a representation of the mark at the top of the reverse, then I may be gaining some understanding. We'll see when I get another one. Thanks all.
