Western Ksahtrap coin [solved]

7 posts
Hi

I'm trying to ID this coin:

Can anyone tell me if my coin is of:
Bhartrdaman - numista - example 1 - example 2
Rudrasena II - example
or Damajadasri III - example

I've been looking through the hooks and daggers (Brahmi letters) that are trying to stab the three hills + crescent + 4 dots on my coin for an hour now. It did make me dizzy and confused (need a drink) but i managed to narrow it down to those examples - lucky me there are not many such coins with 4 dots. And now that i am posting this i think NONE of those look like my coin anymore. 8~

Thank you for your time

At a bare minimum, you will need Raphson:

Catalogue of the coins of the Andhra dynasty, the Western Ksatrapas, the Traikutaka dynasty, and the "Bodhi" dynasty by Rapson, Edward J.

Very nice book that should help you decipher the legends...

Vladimir told me today that he's going to give me a user !
I gave him the username and I'm waiting for him to make it !

Eitan that's what I'm betting on but I'm not 100% sure.
That is a daunting PDF quant. I'll give it a try when I'm sober. ?
Hi Heretic_Cata,
It is a coin of Rudrasena (Most likely Rudrasena - 1). https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces38845.html

Most of the legend which bears King's name and his father's are worn off (See 12 o'clock for King's name, and 7 o'clock for his father's name) .

I find this PDF document extremely helpful in reading legends of Western Ksatrap coins, http://people.bu.edu/ptandon/WK-Legends.pdf

Hope this helps

Thanks so much for the ID ! That PDF is much easier to navigate than the other one. I'll keep it around.

Thank you again :)
