Just found this on eBay.
Only experienced eye can find difference in the third letter in the date.

ჩ ყ გ instead of ჩ ყ გ . Engraver made a little mistake :)

Good job. Maybe the guy doesn't know enough Georgian writing to recognize a fake. Maybe tell him about his mistake.

I wrote him already  :)
He seems like a very reputable dealer, I hope his losses on this item are not too substantial. I guess that's all of our worst nightmare, a prized coin and centerpiece of our collection turns out to be a fake. Even experienced dealers can be taken in.

Well done David.

In my opinion books are as important as coins and of equal value is having knowledgeable friends who can be relied on when you need advice on a particular coin. Every serious collector should spend as much time increasing their own knowledge and building a circle of friends and contacts as they do on their collection.
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

He answered that he has Krunken Auction and PGCS proofs about authenticity and I can sleep well and dont worry about it.

too odd for me
ჩყვგ = 18063  :)
such error never reported in any catalog.
I should be far from this coin

It's this coin:

Studying Georgian numerals in Wikipedia shows that this could not be a date.

Coins of this price range are tough to begin with. So hard to find enough examples to tell real from fake.
there is quite clear engraved letter " ვ" instead of "კ"

for me, and for 100% of Georgian collectors (we discussed today this coin here, at our local FB coin group) it is very suspicious .

GOD, I wish to learn that language!
"QUITE CLEAR, he?"

Thank you for the humility to come and let us all know! I respect that.

Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins

I clicked on this honestly expecting to see something like this

   or this

And then realised you were talking about the country, not the coinage of 1700s Great Britain!

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.
