They are the same coin but one is silver clad and one is solid .510 silver. Is there any easy way to tell which? I'm working on the principle that it will be the silver clad coin (it's not coming from a collector so the person I'm getting it from knows nothing about the coin).
If the dimensions of the coins are the same the 510 silver ones should be around 7-9% heavier depending on the thickness of the silver cladding and how pure it is.
We actually were just discussing this coin a week or two ago. The silver coin is the proof version, so it should be visually distinctive compared to the silver-clad version.
As I said in the other post: the silver ones have 'frosted' heads, the silverplated have not.
And you should see a two-coloured edge, as you can see on the link
The value of these coins is very very low in Belgium. Nobody wants them any more, even the silver ones, the get only the price of the silver. http://www.delcampe.net/items?language=D&catLists%5B0%5D=8549
