As suggested by Daryl who started the original list here I thought I would get the ball rolling on a new forum as I love to watch how our collections are growing

And I have just realized that I have 3 countries at 7th place with exactly the same number of types.
Both Germanies with a huge number of coins do not appear ion the type list.
Jarcek, I own more types of every country in your top 10 except Czechoslovakia. Not a surprise as you are playing a home game there. But I guess you own some commems as well. The main type I'm still missing is this zinc 2 Halere.
Maudry you beat me in all your top 10. So many Luxemburg types! They hardly fit inside that country.

I was intrigued by the amount of New Zealand coins you have because I have a special interest in coins from Oceania. I only have 266 coins from New Zealand so I was curious about your collection so I took a look at it. But then I saw you put your doubles also in the collection boxes instead of in the exchange box. For instance you've put 33 pieces of 5 cents 1987 in the collection boxes and none in the exchange box. Is there a special reason for? Because now the figures aren't correct anymore.

Quote: "Moneytane"Good questions, but offensive and sarcastic.
My question absolutely wasn't meant to be offensive nor sarcastic. I was just wondering about the reason behind your method of adding your coins to the database, so I asked a question about it. I'm sorry if this question felt offensive and/or sarcastic. The Numista database keeps a lot of statistics, for instance the amount of different coins by country you collect, but these figures aren't accurate because of your method of adding.
Quote: "Moneytane"I don't do exchanges, hence why there are none.
If that is the only reason why you don't use the exchange boxes, there is another solution. Go to your settings and thick the box "I don't want to exchange at all for the moment". In that case no one will bother you with swap requests and at the same time you have a separation between your collection and your doubles.
Quote: "Moneytane"I never knew there was a law against owning more than one of those coins.
Hmmm, who is sarcastic now?
But of course, you collect what you want and how many you want, that's not of my business. But again, if the reason is to avoid bothering swap requests, then there is another solution.
Quote: "Moneytane"I am not wasting $3.30 of our money exchanging a 5 cent coin, and also in NZ sending coins in the mail is illegal and can not be insured if they go missing.
- Sending coins by mail is illegal in a lot of countries (in Belgium too) so insurance in case of a shipment went missing can indeed be a problem. But lucky the percentage of shipments go missing is very low. And you can even diminish this percentage by choosing carefully to which countries you sent your coins to.
- If you exchange only one 5 cent coin, then it is of course a waste of money. When I look at the New Zealand Post website, I see you can send a 200 gram letter worldwide for only $2.70 and a 200 gram letter is about 30 to 35 coins (of course depending on what kind of coins you'll send), package included. Exchanging 30 to 35 of your doubles for 30 to 35 coins or dates you don't have doesn't seem a waste of money to me.
- But of course, swapping coins or not is your decision and yours only. But in my opinion, swapping coins is a great way to expand your collection and to meet new fellow collectors.

Very slow 2 months for the top 10 countries. However, I have added significantly to countries like Australia, Croatia, Slovenia, Brazil, Mexico and a few others
I added a lot of Austrian coins just yesterday to my collection, as many as 16x Silver 100 Schilling coins! I also noticed that my collection from 3Jan to 1Oct has increased from 7699 to 8678, almost 1000 coins!
The top ten I have is kind of top heavy, to say the least. I usually just try to get 1 coin from each country and swap the rest I might have. I focus mainly on U.S. coins.
The United States: 382
Ireland: 8
Canada: 6
United Kingdom: 5
Papua New Guinea: 5
Germany:5
China:4
Spain: 4
Mexico: 4
Algeria: 3
That should be about right. I really cut back on the number of coins I have.
1. United States 2881
2. Germany 2161
3. United Kingdom 1418
4. Canada 953
5. France 737
6. Australia 619
7. Switzerland 557
8. Belgium 511
9. Mexico 499
10. Netherlands 482
many of the above coins are euro coins - a little over 2800 with some double counting as 600 coins are in sets with some duplicates in the loose coins. I've been collecting since I was 6 years old when my grandfather started me with a Lincoln Penny book. He actually "willed" me his collection when he died but my damn grandmother sold his coins instead. Sigh...
Top 10 countries, counts by type, w/ additions since July:
1. United States: 260
├ United States: 259 (+6) -- 1865 3 cent nickel, 1892 shield nickel, 1923 Monroe half-dollar, new 2017 quarters
└ Hawaii: 1
2. Russia: 165
├ Empire: 14 (+1)
├ RSFSR/USSR: 73 (+3) -- a couple small RSFSR silvers and a pre-1961 type
└ Russian Federation: 78
3. Canada: 122
├ Canada: 121 (+3) - 1919 5c and really nice Confederation 50c and $1
└ Newfoundland: 1
4. Great Britain: 98 (+13) -- pre-decimal stuff, farthing-florin
5. Japan: 86 (+17) -- mostly circulating commemoratives: shinkansen set (9x¥100), several ¥500 from the 47 provinces series, a few other random ¥100/500, and a really nice XF 1870 20 Sen (one of my goals for this year)
6. Mexico: 84 (+19) -- a few massive commemoratives from the 50-70s and a bunch of 2008/9 bimetallic 5 pesos
7. Australia: 69 (+11) -- early 1900s pre-decimals, plus a few modern kooks/koalas, cause they're so pretty
8. Germany: 60
├ German states - Prussia: 3 (+1) -- very nice Wilhelm II 3 Mark, virtually unc
├ Germany 1871-1948: 19 (+3) -- 1934A 1 Mark and a couple other pieces
├ Saar: 3 (+1) -- 20 Franken. Only need 100 Franken now
├ Democratic Republic: 12 (+1) -- 1982A 2 Mark - the only non-commemorative denomination I was missing from DDR
└ Federal Republic: 23
9. India: 59
├ Indian States and Kingdoms - Kutch: 6 (+6) -- pretty amazing how late India unified and that these kingdoms still existed in the 1940s
├ India, British: 21 (+?) -- Victoria 1/12 Anna 1901, George VI 1/2 Rupee and maybe a few others, don't remember...
├ India, Portuguese: 4
└ India, Republic: 28
10. Spain: 58 (+5) -- Alfonso XII 5 Pesetas 1875, Alfonso XIII 50 Centimos 1910 and 5 Pesetas 1898, Franco 5 Pesetas 1949, and a BU 1982 World Cup 100 Pesetas
India is new on the list, pushing Spain down to #10 and Italy dropping off.
2883 Different types -- I wonder if I can reach 3000 this year. There is one more show I will probably attend in November, so it's a possibility.

6. United States 232 7. Syria 228(Mixed in 3 Collections)
8. Brazil 200
9. Colombia 190
10. United Kingdom 137
The three countries I am focused are in bold and looking in a better shape than previous years... sadly most of the missing coins are in the Silver / Gold and Commemorative range so this numbers only increase when I spend more money as very rarely I can obtain these coins on Numista....
Great exercise to see how the collection is going... pretty happy with my efforts! and thank you for those who helped me with Swaps.
