Following the first announcement by chomp-master, the time has come to bring the idea of a 2017 Numista token to the next level. 2017 is a very special year, since Numista will have it's 10th anniversary in March.
Funny to see that 14-15% of coin files were deleted as duplicates or refused files.

There was no official release date. I think we can consider the registration date of the first user (besides me).
So let's choose the 7th of March, 2007 as the official birthday of Numista ;)

Well, 100 000 coins before 7th of March look like mission impossible, but anyway we need to do our best to make the catalog better.

Just out of Curiosity, do you know who was the first official user (apart from yourself of course Xavier)?

Each user have ID, you can see it when viewing user's profile. Xavier have ID = 2, if you start to increase ID number in url you will find that first existing ID is 20. And here the user: https://en.numista.com/echanges/profil.php?id=20

...who has been totally inactive for ten years.
What about the oldest account that has logged in within the last 90 days?

Never realised this, thanks Megas for the information and the links to the longest members.
Broge (#24) was the first user to make any contributions whatsoever, so maybe March 9th would be a better date for the 10th anniversary.
.
Doesn't anybody know what font the Numista logo is in?
I translate through Yandex. All languages are welcome.
What is the process of designing a coin on the computer? Where does one start? If you have an excellent idea, but cannot convey it to computer, what can be done?
Can a jewel or two be used in the design? Where can I get a set of die stamps made to order? I want to make coins for personal use, promotions, etc.,..Anybody?
Thank you, yes sir, no sir, and please.

I'll register this design, however please notice the missing letter in French "ECHANGE SANS FRONTIERES"

Quote: "cheis"Hi all,
I have just finished my design and it is only missing the initials
Can we include a name in really small letter instead of the initials?
If not, how many initials maximum can we use?
I guess a full name can be added. Like the French coin by Georges Guiraud. But if the name is very huge, initials may be better (like in Italy with a 3-part name) or only the last name (like in some French coins: Lagriffoul, Jimenez...) with/without the first name initial(s). It's up to you.

I really like the globe side . With all the different currencies . I cannot identify a few of them. Though I don't see the Indian rupee symbol (lol should I've offended ! hehe )
Just as constructive critique, given the token is only 30mm, will the Symbols come out clear ? (That was the problem I wrestled with in my own design).
For the other side, I'm only concerned that rather than "exchanging", one hand putting coins in another looks more like "donating" or "begging".
It's be great if you open a new thread and write down some points about your thought process and the reasons for the various design elements. I'm sure a lot of us would appreciate your effort even more when we get a glimpse of it from behind the scenes as it were. For instance I'm curious how you chose the currency symbols and why the Atlantic Ocean side of the word (why not the Indian Ocean ?)

Hi chomp-master,
Thank you for the reply. I will go with my last last name ( Cheis ) because oddly as it may be it matters for the concept of the design. To whom should we submit the design? Here to this topic, to you to Xavier?

I think maybe a set of tokens might be a good idea.
Denominations: 1, 100, 200, 300, 400
When somebody hits these targets with their number of countries, they can order the token. Make a new set every year so that the token can serve as a memento. Only make as many as there are members at these levels such that the tokens themselves will gain in value and will be traded here on the site. Who knows, maybe in 2035 when the site has 4 million members, the 2018-400 country token will be worth more than gold!

Quote: "Jarcek"14 designs are in the game now. Maybe somebody sent it right before deadline, so there might be more.
In the few days you will see the finalists.
I believe the deadline passed, "Designs should be submitted before the 25th of January, 2017."
I didn't receive any last-minute design, only last-minute updates of current applications.

It would be nice to see all the designs that were submitted posted where.
Even if it was only after the end of the contest.
I don't know about the others but I am very curious about the various designs.
Maybe you could even create a sticky post on the forum or a page dedicated to the 2 contests.

He's mocking your word-by-word translation, showing you that even Google does better.

Lol, sorry, numista is a global forum...it doesn't work on Indian standard time...a deadline is there for a reason
I would say next time, take it more seriously and definitely seek feedback from others to correct the language and give some constructive criticism eg drop "King Xavier" lol ... Although I'm not one for heraldics... I can see so much potential in your design. It could have indeed been a winner.... and mind you, I've also entered the contest!
Quote: "Sayan"I understand..... next time I will post at correct time.... But I HAVE TO WAIT 4 YEARS?!??!
I don't know if they will do a 14th Anniversary of Numista lol... but I'm sure in another couple years there might be occasion to celebrate something else.

I saw some people are speaking about Indian time... But Indian time is earlier than CET... The only isssue is it was 1 day late.
I'm asking my teammates about their advice for this late issue.

lol, it's a running joke among Indians ... it's very common for people to be late for appointments... "Indian standard time" is a a euphemism for lateness or being slow

We received 15 designs for the contest. I would like to thank all the artists that participated to the contest. Chomp-master and I (with the inputs from Jarek) could not decide on only 5 designs, so we finally selected 6 finalists, which will take part in the vote to choose the final design.
Here are the 15 designs with results, sorted by date of submission.

I will contact the authors of the selected designs to suggest slight modifications, before the vote opens, probably during the week-end or early next week.
A special note for Sayan: I really liked your designs and, although they were submitted late, we considered them during the selection. We found the design very attractive but we didn't select it because of the theme of your design.

Hello this is the final design of the obverse side .Can be read upward and downward in both languages.Yesterday succeed to design the arabic numbers.
I believed that all the (15)designs could participate to the contest and all the members worldwide vote.
I would like to see how many votes could take my and all the others designs.
Any way ,good luck to the 6 competitors that succeed to pass throw the committee.
As 5 designs become 6 also could become 15
Thanks to administrators those gave us the opportunity to see our designs.
Thanks a lot Xavier Uncle as you liked my designs..... I will try me level best to compete next time and submit my design in correct time
Best Of luck to selected designs
By Sayan :)

Unfortunately a vote between 15 options would not be efficient.
That's why a preliminary selection is deemed necessary. And, as a major fact, I've also been eliminated

Passing it, but also a lot of novice please consult thank you. My opinion. Each participant works as well. Just less historic. What is the ancient coins, ancient coins is representative of history, faith, culture. And to share, in a long time ago to complete a coin needs 6or7 race to complete. For example, the dragon on behalf of the Chinese, the eagle on behalf of the American and the meaning of peace.. The end have share only
1. Exchage sisn frontieres looks like " Medicos sins fronteras" . It is well-known world humanitary organisation. words " sans frontieres" reminds first of all this organisation.
2. Two hands with a number of coins in one and one coin on other more looks like alms/donation, and not "exchange" .
3. nobody will understand what "2007-2017" means. Any commemorative token or medal must contain main legend - " 10 years since...." . Dont think only for ourr generation. Further ones also should understand the aim of this medal. " 10 years since the death of Mrs. Numista? " " 10 years since foundation os donating humanitarian organization NUMISTA" ? or ? . Legend should contain at least what NUMISTA is, and what means that ten years.
edited: - I think, www.numista.com shouldbe on the medal in any case.
4. "12 world currencies" - are there only 12 currencies in the world?? Who voted for that currencies? why 12 and not 14? Dont you think that there were some reasons why these 12 were put on the medal, andnot other 12?
5. If we are contemporary numismatists / collector, - we should go step-by step with our time, and such design, with 99% of images and a few information is not in nowdays` trend. Today coins, medals andtokens design go by primitive way, very easy, just a few light images, and not such art-noveau medal
6. If we see lake Tanganyika on the African map, why we dont see lake Chad? If we see Madeira and azores, why we dont see Saint Thomas -prince islands?
7. Finally, I think medal needs a lot of work over it to swim in the numismatic river with other medals and tokens of pour time.
Thanks to author anyway, but I expected bit more from commemorative medal in 2017 .
And, sorry for my English
Yours,
D.

in this "running joke" The Indians they are referring to are the native American Indians because we tend to do things in our own sweet time......
my two favorite quotes;
"good thing about going by Indian time is the fact that I'm never late!"
"if an Indian says he's going to do something, there is no need to remind him every 6 months"

hmm... I was referring to Indians from India, i cannot speak for native Americans (though it's interesting if that's something that exists among that community as well!)
