It's already 1st April here (no I'm not pulling a joke this year) I got my first coins of the month and they completed one of my collections. I now have all of the coins from Malaya from pre-1945. These are the one's I picked up.
1/2 Real d'or of the Duchy of Guelders of the Spanish Netherlands under Philip II of Spain.
Krause gives the years of mintage as 1555-1576, but was struck without a date.
Got it for a decent price due to it having that huge flan crack.

Hungary 1926, 1 Filler
Just love the Hungarian Holy Crown. Here is the crown in its full glory:
Thanks for that!!
Thanks for that too!
I just got a Hungarian 2 filler 1898 in nice condition and with a really nice woodgrain tone, and yes, that crown is very pretty.
BTW, where are you getting all those pre-war Vatican coins? I really want one of those, but I don't think I've ever actually seen any (not that I probably could afford it if I did find one).

Quote: "jelle"I won the MPC - South America, and got this buetie from DonChori
I really want to thank him for it!
Awesome, glad to see the prize got through to you ok. I must say that the prize for the Pacific section safely made it from my coin storage box into my coin storage box. Maybe I'll offer it up for the prize next year and try to win it back again
Thanks Peter. It's a Belleville issue, LC-33C2. I'm not sure how to grade tokens when they don't have a bust/head, but I suppose this one is at least F.
Quote: "Quant.Geek"A hoard of my precious treasure that I acquired this month :
and about 70 LRBs
1. This is quite a nice hoard, what are LRBs?
2. Did you get a good deal on these or is this photo representing a fortune?
3. What would it cost me to get a nice one like these?
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!
1) LRBs stands for Late Roman Bronzes
2) The top hoard was a bit much unfortunately, but the second one came out to about $10 per coin. That is pretty good when most of those coins go for over $20 at least...
3) Anywhere from $500 or more. The second one, if you do the math, went for over $700. You take what you like, and sell the rest
The bill is crisp and in almost perfect condition though it dates to 1881. It is in fact older than the tokens (top one 1887 and bottom one 1902). Gnaedinger was founded in 1852. I don't know yet when it closed down, nor why, but the building is still standing in Old Montreal.
The buyer of the items on the bill is certainly a descendant of Jonathan Locke, one of the two founders of Lockeport, Nova Scotia. The town's coastline was featured on the 1954 $50 bill:
If it's the same Edward VII 10¢ as in this post (where the image can be enlarged) ─ yes: EF. Edward's was the "flattest" portrait on our coins. While other rulers' crown or profile would start to wear at the center, with Edward, it starts everywhere almost all at once.
As for the Syrian coin, it's interesting the French authorities didn't even make an effort to provide the A.H. date along with the A.D. date of 1935.

Yes it's the same coin. The pictures from that post were the sellers pictures. These pictures are mine. After seeing it I have no hesitation giving it XF. It actually looks better in hand than in the scan because my scanner is pretty poor.
Quote: "redsmithstudios"I finally found some coins to buy! I'll be selling some of these to pay for the lot. But I'll have fun looking through them first!
Yea, the problem is I'm having a hard time deciding what to sell and what to keep. I want to keep it all, but I'll sell some to get some of the money back into my coin fund.

Here is a Devins & Bolton penny received today beside a nice example of the original token purchased about a year ago:
♠
Four banks came together to issue penny and halfpenny tokens in 1838 (though they're dated 1837). These two pennies were issued by the Banque du Peuple, the least common of the four.
Pennies with the Devins & Bolton countermark are much less common than halfpennies.
Some of my recent purchases. I'm especially pleased with the 1821 Mexican 8 reales from the Zacatecas mint and the Meissen groschen. The two Lithuanian półgrosze (one with a "Litv" and the other with a "Litva" ending in the legend)are also not to be snubbed

Thanks folks, I consider the piece of 8 a bargain. It was originally a charity listing on eBay, if they had posted a better pic (they must have used a potato to take a picture of this coin :D), I might have not won this auction, as the coin would very likely go for a much higher price. Due to the poor photo it was a little risky to buy it, considering the amount of fakes, but it paid off, as I'm 100% sure it's a real thing. On the side note, I'm thinking into getting deeper into the "gros/groschen/grosz/groot/grosso" field, as I really like these coins, although it may be a little pricey.

A gentleman, whom I purchased a coin from eBay, sent me a list of about 200 Colonials he was selling (getting around those fees). I spent 2 days calculating what I liked and could afford.
I have a Cossack penny, but never as nice as this one! Both tokens are indeed very nice.
This weekend I went to a small coin show. One of the dealers had a lot of lower grade coppers which were sparkling clean and I assumed he had bought some collection from someone who cleaned his coins. Well, it didn't take long until I realized he was cleaning his own coins! He literally said to me "They don't want you to clean your coins because they don't want you to see the cracks!" What?? The cracks?? How ignorant can one be? I hope he'll never get his hands on this pair of nice tokens!
I collect a lot of crazy things and one of the things I collect are manuscripts and styluses of different types. Here is one I just picked a few days ago that will go nicely with the others that I have:
Ancient Rome: Wax Tablet Iron Stylus (ca. 2nd-3rd century CE)
This would have been used by a scribe to write upon a wax tablet. One end sharp for writing, the other a wedge shaped terminal to be used as an "eraser" to fix errors.
Sri Lankan / South Indian: Palm-Leaf Manuscript Iron Stylus (ca. 16th-20th century CE)

Yeah, they're photos taken by me. I paid for the whole lot about £190.

The first ipad and you thought Steve Jobs invented it . Check out the following tablet user from Ancient Greece. I wish I can acquire a tablet as well, but they are nearly impossible to find, let a lone acquire...

All coins I'm adding right now if new dates of current Korean coins. Doesn't even feel worth the effort to add pics here. No 2017 coins yet though, but a lot of shiny 2016's.
