Removing Verdigris from copper with saline solution in an ultrasonic cleaner

3 posts

Sorry, tried to add these pictures to my original post and the post and previous pictures all disappeared. These are the end result after 30 minutes in saline with 15 minutes of cleaning time and then the same amount of time in a solution of TSP. 1 level teaspoon in 600 ml of tap water.

Those are the only pictures that I managed to capture of their appearance at the beginning of this experiment. The ones below are after the saline wash. Operator error with the photo capture equipment is to blame for the missing progress pictures.

I was not real happy with the amount of verdigris that the ultrasonic cleaner was able to remove so decided to spend 15 minutes cleaning without the machine or saline. Using qtip cotton swabs, blue magic and a torch to add the rainbow toning. I only managed to get 4 done in 15 minutes. Now they are "harshly cleaned" but a bit nicer to look at without the gunk. I would not recommend doing anything that I did on a coin of any value.
